Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, "Father the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You, for You gave Him authority over all flesh, so He may give eternal life to all You have given Him. This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent - Jesus Christ. I have glorified You on the earth by completing the work You have Me to do. Now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with that glory I had with You before the world existed."
John 17:1-5
Eternal life is found in Jesus alone. Without Jesus we have no life. To have eternal life is to Know God and Jesus Christ. If you do not know God through His Son Jesus Christ, then you do not have eternal life and you are walking in death.
Eternal life is given through the mercy of God alone and it is a God and Jesus thing. They do the work and provide the gift. We must receive the gift in faith.
Faith: empty hands that receive the gift of God.
It is not blind, we know what it is we are receiving and who we are receiving it from.
This faith produces works, not to earn God's favor, but to respond to the gift that has been given to us. We work because He has done the work.
Faith rejects all kinds of self-righteousness. We cannot be righteous on our own. Only Jesus makes us righteous.
Do you have eternal life? Are you putting your faith in Christ and the work He completed for you on the cross?
