Isaiah 53:4-6

"Surely He has born our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was pierced for our transgressions;
He was crushed for our iniquities;
Upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with His wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned - everyone - to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

As I read these words written so long ago and think that God was planning this from the beginning of time, tears come to my eyes. Jesus knew when He came to earth this is what He would suffer. He would be stricken and smitten by God. He would be pierced and crushed for our sins, though He never committed any sin. Jesus suffered so much for us and yet we still go our own way. The world hates Him and yet He loved them in their sin and rebellion. God put our sin on His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we could be considered perfect and righteous. Isn't the love of God amazing!
